A Good Coach - the Secrets of Effective Influence and Inspiration

good coach - the secrets of effective influence

In today's pace of life, seeking motivation and support can be crucial to achieving personal development and success. Among the vast number of options and professionals offering support, the question arises: who is a good motivational coach?

A good coach - what distinguishes him from others?

So let's see what distinguishes a true professional in the field of coaching.

What makes coaching clients satisfied with the cooperation and willing to recommend the coaching process to their friends as a very effective method of personal development?

1. Effective relationship building

The ideal coach is not only an expert in his field but also a master of building trust and relationships with the client. A good coach can listen, empathize, and adapt the approach to the individual needs of the client.

2. The ability to release potential

A motivational coach not only motivates but also helps the client discover their potential and brings it to light. This is a person who directs the client's attention to his strengths and supports them in developing them.

3. Focus on goals and actions

An effective motivational coach helps you set clear goals and action plans. It supports the client in overcoming barriers, providing support at every step.

4. Inspiring motivation and support

A good coach not only provides motivational tools but is also an inspiration in itself. Through his experience and positive approach, he motivates the client to act.

5. Continuous improvement

An ideal motivational coach also cares about his or her development, constantly expanding knowledge, skills, and work techniques to be the best support for his or her clients. They usually have appropriate certifications and belong to one of the leading organizations for coaches, e.g. the International Coach Federation (ICF) or the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). Choosing a good motivational coach is a key step in achieving your personal and professional goals. This is a person who not only motivates but also supports, inspires, and guides you towards success. Finding such a partner can become an impulse to achieve your life dreams and overcome your limitations.

What doesn't the ideal coach do?

International organizations of coaches set standards that coaches are obliged to follow. Within these standards, particular emphasis is placed on work ethics, and the boundaries that a coach must not cross are defined. Apart from the techniques and methods used in individual coaching sessions and specific coach behaviors that constitute obvious errors of art (we write about this in the dedicated section entitled "The 7 most dangerous mistakes of a coach" ), here is a list of the most important things that a professional coach does not do:

  • He does not impose his own opinions, beliefs, and values on the client. The most important task of a good coach is to help the client find the answers that are best for him. Each coaching process is a very individual journey and each relationship is unique. The main task of the person conducting coaching sessions is to remain impartial, and non-judgmental and create as comfortable an atmosphere based on full trust as possible. But in no way should you impose solutions or even suggest them.

  • It does not use unethical practices. One of the most important principles is the guarantee of 100% confidentiality. Without it, you can't build real trust. A true professional always follows this rule and never shares the topics and course of sessions, or even the resulting conclusions about the client's personality or weaknesses, with other people. Moreover, a professional coach never uses the coaching relationship to obtain additional benefits for himself, e.g. to acquire new clients or valuable information.

  • He doesn't make empty promises. When agreeing on a coaching contract, the person conducting the coaching communicates the principles of cooperation and precisely defines the roles of each party. Therefore, it cannot guarantee 100% effectiveness and make promises to solve all possible problems, because the coachee is responsible for the final results of cooperation. A professional coach is honest with his client and does not give false hopes. He also undertakes to lead a process that concerns topics in which the coach has experience.

  • He does not exceed the boundaries of the relationship with the client and shows him respect. Although a coaching relationship can be very intimate, a good professional always remembers to maintain a professional distance and not to exceed the boundaries of his profession ( e.g. a mentoring relationship can be much more friendly than a coaching relationship, even after the cooperation ends). In the process of supporting the client, he respects him, is not late for sessions, does not interrupt them, does not change their dates, and addresses the client in a way that suits him.

To sum up, the best coach is not only a person with extensive knowledge, skills, and experience, but above all a person with high ethics and a professional who adheres to professional ethics, and his most important goal is the good of his client.

Business coaching is a great method of developing employees and organizations

As you can see, the opportunity to work with a good coach brings many benefits. They can be used both privately and through coaching programs organized by companies for their employees. It is an effective method of developing employees and the organization because it offers many benefits for both parties. Thanks to the cooperation between the coach and the client, expected and lasting changes occur, both in behavior and in the area of competence and growth of the coachee's self-awareness. Here are some reasons why business coaching is great for both employee and organizational development:

  1. Individual approach: Business coaching provides a personalized approach, focused on the specific needs of the employee. The coach works with employees on an individual level, identifying their goals, strengths, and areas requiring improvement. This allows employees to develop skills and become more effective by using their unique abilities.

  2. Increasing commitment: Thanks to regular coaching sessions, employees feel appreciated and supported, which translates into greater commitment to the tasks they perform. Employees who feel engaged are more likely to put in more effort and commit to the organization's goals.

  3. Increasing efficiency: thanks to coaching, employees develop both professional and personal skills, which translates into greater effectiveness at work. A business coach helps employees identify and overcome obstacles that may prevent them from achieving their goals. By eliminating barriers and providing constructive feedback, the coach helps employees achieve higher quality work and better results.

  4. Accelerated Leader Development: Business coaching is an effective leader development tool. Coaches help managers and managers develop leadership and team management skills. By helping leaders identify their strengths and areas that need improvement, business coaching can contribute to the development of more effective leaders who can lead a team to success.

  5. Improving communication: Such support can also improve communication within the organization. Coaches help employees develop communication skills, such as clearly expressing their thoughts and expectations, listening effectively to others, and resolving conflicts. Improving communication within the organization leads to better cooperation between employees and promotes effective problem-solving.

  6. Online coaching: the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the work mode and culture. Today, working remotely or in a hybrid mode is completely natural. Just a few years ago this was unthinkable. This also meant that cooperation between the coach and the client moved to the Internet. Already available research shows that this did not affect the quality of such cooperation. This brings huge benefits. It doesn't matter whether your place of work is Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław, Katowice, Gdańsk, Szczecin, or whether you work abroad or from a home office located anywhere in the world. This in no way affects your ability to cooperate with a good online coach.

To sum up, business coaching is a great method of developing employees and organizations because it offers an individual approach, increases commitment, improves efficiency, allows you to achieve goals faster, develops leaders, improves communication, and gives you almost unlimited possibilities of choosing a good online coach. Thanks to regular coaching work, this method of development, especially for leaders, is an investment that translates into success for both employees and the entire company.
